Detroit Lakes Birding Festival - May 20-23, 2010

Mike Murphy will share on the secrets of bird migration on Thursday evening. A Minnesota favorite, wildlife biologist and photographer Carrol Henderson will present Friday evening "Birds in Flight: The Art and Science of How Birds Fly,".

Joe Hautman will be at the festival on Saturday, May 22 demonstrating his drawing technique. Charlie Walcott from Cornell University offers insight into Why Birds Sing and the Behavior behind Loon Vocalizations, in free Saturday workshops.

The keynote speaker is Jeff Gordon at Saturday night's "Bird Song Grammys." Gordon is an experienced birder, writer, photographer and naturalist from Delaware who has lead tours around the globe.

SDOU Spring Meeting - May 21-23, 2010

The South Dakota Ornithologist's Union (SDOU) Spring Meeting will be in Souix Falls, SD May 21-23, 2010.

The event will feature birding field trips around the area.

SDOU is a statewide organization of about 300 members dedicated to promoting the study of ornithology by more closely uniting those interested in birdwatching (birding).

7th Annual Turtle Mtn Birding Festival - May 21-23, 2010

We'll be focusing on Franklin's Gulls, Black Terns, Western Grebes, Bobolinks, Upland Sandpipers, Am. Avocets, Wilson's Phalaropes, Sharp-tailed Grouse, a dozen duck species, and a wealth of birds at J. Clark Salyer NWR.

We will also search diligently for the rarer Le Conte's Sparrows, Sprague's Pipits, Nelson's Sharp-tailed Sparrows and others. Pre-Festival scouting will emphasize these sought-after birds, so we expect a bountiful Festival checklist of birds.

Montana Audubon Birding Festival: June 4-6, 2010

The 2010 Montana Audubon Bird Festival will be held in Missoula, located in western Montana.

The festival will celebrate the tremendous variety of birds that are found in central Montana’s stream and river bottoms, mountain forests, and wetlands.

Glasgow, MT Feather Fest - June 5, 2010

The Feather Fest will offer a social on the evening of June 4 and four free field trips on the 5th. The field trips are to the Ft Peck dam, south Valley County, a canoe trip on the Missouri (suitable for beginners) and a bird banding session.

Lostwood NWR has a 7-mile auto tour as well as a 7-mile hiking trail. Bird watchers visit here for the abundant Grasshopper Sparrow, Sprague's Pipit, Baird's Sparrow and the Piping Plover.
